Jena-Göschwitz railway station, opened on 1 July 1876, developed into an important transport hub where the Holzlandbahn (Weimar-Gera) and Saalbahn (Naumburg-Saalfeld) lines intersected. This strategic location encouraged the establishment of industrial companies, including the Sächsisch-Thüringische Portland-Cement-Fabrik Prüssing & Co., founded on 22 December 1885 by Godhard Prüssing. This cement factory had a significant impact on the economic landscape of Göschwitz. Its impact can still be seen in the town today, particularly in the nearby quarry, which is a nature reserve.
