In the Middle Ages, Isserstedt, Kötschau and Remderoda formed a separate bailiwick with a castle belonging to the Lords of Isserstedt. This moated castle was first mentioned in 1174 and remained important until the 16th century. The castle was destroyed during the Saxon Fratricidal War (1446-1451) and subsequently abandoned to the inhabitants. Today, ruined mounds with the remains of ramparts and moats on the south-eastern edge of Isserstedt bear witness to this historic site.

Another historical highlight is the village church of St Magdalena, which was built in the 13th century in the late Romanesque style and extensively remodelled in the 18th century. It stands in the centre of the original village and forms a cultural hub for the community.
