The GEG combines and replaces previous regulations such as the Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV), the Renewable Energies Heat Act (EEWärmeG) and the Energy Performance Certificate Act (EnergieauswG). Among other things, it sets out requirements for the energy standard of new and existing buildings, as well as specifications for energy-efficient refurbishment.
The most important key data of the GEG
- Energy requirements
The law defines energy requirements for new buildings and for comprehensive refurbishments of existing buildings. These requirements are intended to ensure that buildings are more energy efficient and consume less energy. - Energy performance certificate
The GEG regulates the issuing and content of energy performance certificates for buildings. The energy performance certificate provides information on the energy status of a building and helps owners and tenants to better understand energy consumption. - Subsidies and incentives
The law also provides for subsidies and incentives for energy-related refurbishment measures. These are intended to encourage owners to invest in energy-efficient technologies and reduce the energy consumption of their buildings.
